In a process for preparing round aluminium blanks for cold-forming into aluminium cans, a lubricant is applied to the bright aluminium surface which is of solid to paste consistency and water-soluble and contains a mixture of fatty acid salts of sodium and potassium in the ratio by weight of 3:1 to 1:3 and 1 to 10 wt.% of a low-molecular, neutrally reacting compound with free OH group. An especially suitable low-molecular, neutrally reacting compounds with free OH group may be water, mono or polyvalent aliphatic alcohols and/or polyethylene glycol with a molecular weight of 200 to 600. The lubricant preferably also contains straight-chained or branched fatty alcohol polyglycol ether, sodium, potassium or triethanolamine salts of oxidised alpha polyolefines and/or neopentyl glycol. |
