Synthetic peptides exhibit delta hepatitis virus antigenic activity and self-assembly that results in the formation of large multimers and display of a conformational epitope. The peptides may be used to confer protective immunity in subjects or to raise antibodies for diagnostic purposes. Diagnostic assays and kits for diagnostic assays utilize these peptides.
