A device for linearly moving a machine component, tool (1) or workpiece, with a carriage (2) and a track rail (3) for the carriage (2) is designed to attain high speeds between two stations with the least possible wear and high power transference at the stations in such a way that the base of the carriage (2) has at least slightly projecting wheels, castors (4) or rollers so that it can roll on the track rail (3) and that the track rail (3) has at least one parking station in which the wheels, castors (4) or rollers can be lowered by at least the available distance below so that the carriage (2) rests on the track rail (3).
