The invention relates to a method for the manufacture and for the placing into trays (C) of culture plugs (B), wherein the individual culture plugs (B) are formed from a continuous basic strand (A) of culture material which plugs (B) are subsequently placed into the tray (C). To this end first the basic strand (A), is made into strands serving as semi-product and being a few culture plugs (B) long by continuous cutting, and then these strands are cut into the individual culture plugs (B) when they are placed in the trays (C).
