PURPOSE: To obtain an inexpensive alumina-based ceramic material usable at a high temperature, having excellent thermal shock resistance. CONSTITUTION: This alumina based sintered compact contains an α-alumina crystal phase and one or more of aluminum nitride and aluminum oxynitride. Especially, the effective content of aluminum nitride or aluminum oxynitride is >=5wt.% and <=50wt.% calculated as aluminum nitride. The admixture of the alumina based sintered compact with aluminum nitride and/or aluminum oxynitride phase provides ceramic having excellent thermal shock resistance. The alumina based sintered compact much more inexpensive than aluminum nitride and having more excellent thermal shock resistance than alumina and aluminum nitride is obtained. |
