PURPOSE: To obtain a video with an appropriate contrast irrespective of a photographic condition such as normal photographing and strobe photographing, etc., by performing a γ-correction in accordance with the effect whether or not light is emitted by a light emitting means at photographing. CONSTITUTION: An image signal fetched by an image pickup element 5 is converted to a digital signal by an A/D converter 6 so as to be transmitted to a signal processing circuit 10, then, the image signal is separated into a luminance signal and a chrominance signal. Next, whether or not a strobe is used is judged, and in the case the strobe is not in use, correction data is selected based on a normal γlook-up table 11, and in the case the strobe is in use, the correction data is selected based on a γ look-up table 11 where the contrast is suppressed more than at a normal time, then, the γ-correction is performed. The correction quantity of the γ-correction when the strobe is in use is made differ from that when the strobe is not in use, then, the natural video with the contrast suppressed is obtained when the strobe is in use. |
