PURPOSE: To provide a route guide device in which eventual driver's will of changing the heading route is reflected by searching a road to allow return to the original route at the time of deviating from the optimum course by the use of that of the road network data including the road intruded due to the deviation which lies at the grade of hierarchy having the lowest degree of detailedness. CONSTITUTION: When a car concerned deviates from the optimal route R0 and intrudes into a minor road B1 from a crossing P1 , it is considered as caused by misoperation, and therefore, a road to allow returning is sought by the use of that of the road network data including the road B1 which lies at the grade of hierarchy having the lowest degree of detailedness. As the result, it is possible to quickly obtain the route R1 , for example, returning from the current position to the route R0 via crossings P2 , P3 , P4 . When the car deviates from the route R0 at the crossing P4 and intrudes into the trunk road A1 , it is considered from general point of view that the driver possesses a will of changing the heading, and therefore, the return path is sought by the use of the road network data which contains the road A1 and lies at the grade of hierarchy having the lowest degree of detailedness. This gives a route R2 for returning, for example to the route R0 via crossings P5 , P6 , and the operation can reflects the driver's will of changing the heading route. |
