A DLP(Digital Light Processing) projective display apparatus for controlling bit depth and a method for controlling the apparatus are provided to smooth a boundary region of an image by implementing an LED(Light Emitting Diode) synchronizing signal having low bit depth. An LED current control unit(205) controls an amount of current applied to an LED. An LED synchronizing signal creation unit(206) creates synchronizing signals having various bit depth according to the controlled amount of the current. A DMD(Digital Mirror Device)(207) forms images according to the created synchronizing signals. A projective lens(208) projects the images formed by the DMD onto a screen. The LED current control unit includes a red LED current control unit(202), a green LED current control unit and a blue LED current control unit.
