PURPOSE: To provide a thermal recording material high in practicality capable of obtaining sufficient gradation properties in any region from the region low in applied energy of a thermal head to the region high in applied energy thereof. CONSTITUTION: A thermal color forming layer based on a leuco dye and a coupler allowing the leuco dye to develop a color at the time of heating is provided on a support and a protective layer containing an elastic concealing material is provided on the thermal color forming layer.
