PURPOSE: To obtain a glycoside useful as a shampoo, a facial cleaning agent, etc., and having high safety and interfacial activity in high yield while suppressing production of a by-product. CONSTITUTION: This glycoside, e.g. 1-O-n-decylglyceryl-D-glucopyranoside is obtained by reacting e.g. a sugar such as arabinose or a lower alkylglucoside, such as methylglucoside with a polyol having an aliphatic ether such as ethylene glycol in the presence of a solid acid catalyst such as an acid type cation exchange resin (preferably a sulfonic acid type cation exchange resin), as shown in the formula [R<1> is H or a 1-4C alkyl; Z(OH)q is sugar; R<2> is an aliphatic group; R<3> (OH)f is a polyol having (f) hydroxyl groups]. The reaction is preferably carried out at 90-130 deg.C for 1-10hr using a reaction solvent such as dimethylformamide by a method of such as batch type, semi-continuous type or continuous type. The already used catalyst obtained after finishing the reaction is regenerated by immersion with or cleaning in an acidic aqueous solution and resused. |
