PURPOSE: To obtain a coating solution composition having excellent high-coating performance, comprising a copolymer latex having a distribution of gel content in particles and pigment as main components. CONSTITUTION: This adhesive comprises a copolymer latex having 300-700Åaverage particle diameter and 50-90wt.% gel content prepared by adding 0.1-5.0 pts.wt. of a cross-linking agent composed of any of divinylbenzene, allyl (meth) acrylate, ethylene glycol di(meth)acrylate and glycerol tri(meth)acrylate to 20-80wt.% of a monomer mixture comprising 20-50 pts.wt. of an aliphatic conjugated diene-based monomer such as 1,3-butadiene, 0.1-5 pts.wt. of an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer such as acrylic acid and 47-79 pts.wt. of another copolymerizable monomer such as styrene, subjecting the mixture to emulsion polymerization and, at a point of time of >=90% polymerization conversion ratio and >=85% gel content, adding a polymerization chain transfer agent to the rest of the monomer mixture and completing the polymerization. The adhesive is mixed with pigment and a dispersant to prepare a paper coating solution composition.
