PURPOSE: To produce the tobacco filters excellent in degradability in wet state by rainwater, etc., and capable of reducing environmental pollution by winding up a tow of a cellulose ester fiber in a high speed. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing tobacco filters consists of an adding process where 0.5-50 pts.wt. powdery on granular and a hot melt adhesive thermoplastic polymer having 10-500μm average particle diameter is added to 100 pts.wt. tow of a cellulose ester fiber, a forming process to form filter rods by tying round the tow containing the high polymer by a rolling paper, a heat treating process where the filter rods are heat treated with microwaves to melt the high polymer in or after the forming process and a cooling process to cool the filter rods. When adding the thermoplastic polymer, the tow can be opened to about 100-500mm width. The thermoplastic resin has 50-200 deg.C melting point. When a water soluble polymer is used, degradability in the wet state can be enhanced and the environmental pollution reduced.
