PURPOSE: To prevent the exposure unevenness of an image from being caused by an image exposure means with respect to an image carrier, to form a uniform electrostatic latent image at any position of the image, to prevent the density unevenness of the image from occurring and to obtain the high-quality image by holding a cleaning means so that it is not brought into contact with the image carrier, impressing a bias on the cleaning means and electrically attracting toner left on the image carrier. CONSTITUTION: The cleaning device 15 is provided with a cleaning roller 34. The roller 34 is held so that it is not brought into contact with the image carrier 11 by leaving a fixed gap with the carrier 11 and the bias voltage of about -1.5kV is impressed on the roller 34 from a power source 35 for cleaning. By this bias voltage, the toner on the carrier 11 charged positive is electrically attracted to the roller 34. It is preferable that the gap between the carrier 11 and the roller 34 is set to be about 0.5-2.5mm so that the nonuniform of cleaning property is not caused because discharge breakdown is generated between the carrier 11 and the roller 34 or they are partially brought into contact with each other. |
