PURPOSE: To suppress the deposition of Al2 O3 by using a specific CaO-TiO2 clinker and/or CaO-TiO2 -ZrO2 clinker, a carbon raw material and other refractory raw materials in prescribed ratios. CONSTITUTION: A CaO-TiO2 clinker having a CaO/TiO2 molar ratio of 0.27-1.5 and a CaO-TiO2 -ZrO2 clinker having a CaO/TiO2 molar ratio of 0.27-1.5 and a CaO/ZrO2 molar ratio of 0.42-1.0 are prepared from a CaO source, a TiO2 source and a ZrO2 source each having high purity. The objective refractory for continuous casting is produced by compounding 1-97wt.% of the CaO-TiO2 clinker and/or CaO-TiO2 -ZrO2 clinker with 3-40wt.% of a carbon raw material such as crystalline graphite, <=96wt.% of other refractory raw materials containing one or more materials selected from ZrO2 , stabilized ZrO2 , Al2 O3 , etc., <=10wt.% of an antioxidant such as SiC, <5wt.% of a strength-improving agent such as BN and <10wt.% of a viscosity modifier such as SiO2 , kneading the compounded composition together with a binder, forming the kneaded mixture and baking in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. |
