VISUAL DISPLAY SYSTEM WITH LOW-ENERGY DATA STORAGE SUBSYSTEMWITH DATA COMPRESSION FUNCTION AND ITS OPERATING METHOD

PURPOSE: To provide a low energy visual display system reduced in power consumption by data compression. CONSTITUTION: This visual display system 10 used in a computer is provided with a frame butter 24 for holding the visual information data of a specified format for facilitating input to a visual display device 16. Also, the system 10 is provided with a compression frame butter 26 for storing visual display data in a compressed format usable in the visual display device 16. The data are compressed in a microprocessor 14 during idle time and expanded by an expansion circuit 30 during a flyback period. Depending on conditions, power consumed by performing compression and repeatedly handling the compressed data becomes less than the power used for repeatedly handling all non- compressed data sets.
