PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing an optical fiber preform having a uniform refractive index distribution. CONSTITUTION: This method for producing an optical fiber preform is to deposit glass fine particles on the tip of a target rod 2 with a burner 3 for a core, form a core soot 8, deposit the glass fine particles on the periphery of the core soot 8 with burners 5 and 6 for a clad, form a clad soot 9 and thereby form an optical fiber preform 10. The base position of the core soot 8 is sensed and the core soot pulling up speed V is controlled so as to make the position thereof constant and the position of the burner 3 for the core is controlled so as to regulate the base position of the core soot 8. |
