The central monitoring unit (1) receives input from a flow-meter (4) in a valve casing connected to the incoming supply (3), and from thermometers (6) mounted near each burner. Opt., the degree of opening of each burner control tap is also monitored, using potentiometer sensors (10) - in this case the flow-rate may or may not be monitored. The burner temperature, or summated temperatures, should correspond to a previously established flow-rate. Any discrepancy implies a gas leak exists, and the monitor reacts by closing the intake valve (5) via an actuating motor (8) and initiating an alarm (7). In a variant, flow-rates at the intake and consumption points are compared, with the same response to any discrepancy.
