The structure for fixing the steering column assembly (2) on the vehicle structure is provided, near one end, with a device for adjusting the position of the assembly. This end of the structure has two flanges (6,7) between which the steering column assembly extends. The column assembly has a tie rod (9) extending between the flanges and a position lock (13). This lock, which can be displaced between locking and unlocking the assembly between the flanges, allows adjustment of the assembly position. An angular immobilise (15) of the column assembly relative to the flanges is interposed between the assembly and one of the flanges (7). This avoids all pivoting of the assembly corresponding end around the tie rod axis. A collar (8) is located between the flanges and the angular immobiliser is interposed between the collar and the corresponding flange.
