The hand tool comprises a moving jaw (6) which forms, with the internal sides (51), the grip on two faces of a nut (8). A fixed jaw (7) grips on to a third face of the nut. The moving jaw is held in place by means of a shaft-guide (19), which is mounted so as to be locked at each end, in the fixed jaw or body of the tool. The moving jaw slides along the shaft guide and is prevented from rotating by a groove (48). Each side of the moving jaw is in contact with one of two sockets (4,5), which also slide along the shaft guide. The moving jaw is thus moved into the required position by hydraulic pressure, which is fed into a chamber (36) formed behind the one (4) of the sockets, or, into the chamber (42) formed behind the second socket (5). Rotation of the handle nut (1) causes movement of the traction screw (2) and piston (3), which provides the pressurised hydraulics to operate the jaws.
