A plurality of slides (20, 21) are mounted side by side so as to be longitudinally displaceable on a frame (10) and are driven by a crank mechanism (30). Each slide (20, 21) carries a mandrel (24) around which, in each case, a film (2) is moulded by means of a folding member (13) in each case, fixed to the frame, to form a tube. During the forward stroke of the slides (20, 21), one longitudinal sealing jaw (26) in each case presses against the mandrel (24) and forms the lengthwise sealing joint. During the return stroke, the film tubes are held by transverse sealing jaws (15), and the completed bags (3) are cut off by knives (16). The apparatus is very efficient, clearly laid out and simple to operate.
