Active armour esp. for armoured vehicle

The armour consists of a detonation proof housing with front, rear and side walls (1,2,3,4,), pref. made from sheet steel with a waterproof and blockable vent opening (10). A sandwich layer (5,6,7) is arranged between the housing walls which is formed from two thin steel sheets (5,6) and a central layer of explosive (7), pref. formed as a sheet. Between the housing walls and the sandwich layer is a layer of highly elastic material (8). The elastic layer is compressible and, is thicker than the steel sheets. Pref. the elastic layer is made from a foam material. Behind the outer steel walls of the armour is a rigid damping layer (9) made from a web reinforced plastics material.
