Smudge ring arrangement for cylinder of rotary printing machine

Two rubber cylinders (2, 3) and additional cylinders (1, 2) coupled mechanically to them are rotated by motors (M) while a strip (1) of paper is guided between them. The drive is transmitted by toothed wheels (26, 36) to counterparts (16, 46) on the end pins (13, 45) of the outer cylinders. Oscillations are damped by supporting rings (e.g. 11, 14) at both ends of each cylinder. Pref. roller bearings (12, 22, 32, 42) are provided for some of these rings to withstand the high surface pressures occurring in use. These ring transmit practically no torque, and those at the other ends (15, 25, 35, 45) are restrained from rotating w.r.t. their respective cylinders.
