The vehicle rack and pinion steering has a rack guide (4) engaging a longitudinal groove (5) in the rack (1) to prevent its rotation. The axial plane (6) of the longitudinal groove is arranged to coincide with the expected neutral zone, occurring under operating conditions. Pref. the rack is spring loaded by the rack guide against the pinion (2).
