AUTOMATIC VERIFICATION SYSTEM FOR MULTIPLE-PART PRINTED PRODUCT

An automatic verification or matching system is provided for insuring that multiple part printed products (22), such as multiple ply forms with matching variable indicia on each ply (36), have been assembled properly. The system operates in conjunction with a conventional pin band collator (60) and comprises a plurality of indicia sensing devices (110), located at collator stations (84), for sensing variable indicia (36) on each part of the product during assembly. System advantages include the ability to use either bar code scanners or video cameras as indicia sensing devices, provision for automatic resequencing of the printers used for printing variable indici when a mismatch occurs, automatic indication of the collator station where the mismatch has occurred, and automatic marking of defective products produced after an error occurs.
