As the brake pedal is depressed, a pointer (8) or brush moves over the potentiometer path (9), part of the position sensor (10), passing commands in the from of voltages to the controls of the engine or vehicle. The maximum swivel of the pedal lever is limited by a fixed stop (11) and slightly before this, the return arm contacts the full-load position (13).
