A multidirectional carrier and track (10) generally comprising a disc (28,30), a track (12), and a structure (20,22) on the track defining a disc supporting surface (24,26). The disc (28,30) is supported on the disc support surface (24,26) for rotation about an axis, and has first and second ball bearing assemblies (56,58). The ball bearing assemblies have inner (64,66) and outer (68,70) races, the inner races being mounted adjacent one another along the axis. The disc also has an outer cylindrical rim portion (76), the rim portion having an inner-facing surface (77), an outer-facing surface (79) and upper and lower surfaces (82,84), the inner-facing surface (77) engaging the outer races (68,70) and the lower surface (84) contacting the track (12). The structure on the inner-facing surface (77) defines axially spaced faces projecting radially inward towards the axis in step-wise fashion, forming two axially-facing shoulders (86,88) projecting from the inner-facing surface (77). The outer paces (68,70) contact the shoulders (86,88) and are held in the outer rim portion against axial movement in one direction relative to the axis of the support member. A cylindrical reinforcing band (100) surrounds and reinforces the rim portion (76). <IMAGE> |
