A process for producing granulated active carbon in which beads of a styrene divinyl benzole copolymer matrix, which is in particular constituted by anion exchangers and their preliminary stage, are swollen with concentrated sulphuric acid at a temperatures of at least 750 DEG C and the product of pyrolysis is then activated at temperatures of 800 to 900 DEG C.
