Fuel feed system for fuel-injected IC engine with fuel pressure control

The fuel feed system has a fuel pump (22) with a variable speed drive (26) in the fuel tank (21) to feed fuel to the injectors (20) via a filter (25). A pressure sensor (28) behind the fuel filter provides actual pressure values for the fuel feed. A feedback control system regulates the fuel pump speed to ensure a steady fuel pressure at the injectors. This fuel pressure is computed from the engine loading. The control system monitors the fuel injection pulse length and varies same to match the required engine torque. Monitoring the pressure variations during fuel feed enables the control circuit to determine if air or vapour bubbles are in the system. In this case the overall pressure of the feed system is enhanced.
