Removal of chromate, cyanide, heavy metals and anions from effluent

Agent and method for decontaminating chromate or cyanide and sepg. heavy metals from effluent comprises a prim. physical system and a sec. chemical system which combine to offer the advantages of the alkaline sulphide sepn. of harmful substances from water, whilst known disadvantages such as hydrogen sulphide formation or the liberation of hydrocyanic acid are avoided. The agent can be adapted to treat complex effluents. Also claimed is the prepn. of the agent by using the adhesion and heat exchange properties of water to modify sulphur at 308-363 deg.K, cooling and then fixing the sulphur chain. The agent may be further modified by the addn. of dissociating chemical cpds. during the individual process steps. No external energy is required for the prepn. process since the exothermic energy content of the agent components is utilised.
