The vehicle seat has the side or flank cushions (5, 6) on hinge mountings to vary the contour of the seat. Pressure sensors (20, 21, 22) in the sides of the seat monitor the pressure exerted by the seated occupant and servo drives (13, 14) adjust the side cushion angles to optimise the pressures i.e. to change the seat contour to suit the shape of the occupant. The servo drives are activated by a seat occupancy sensor (18). On leaving the seat the occupant releases the seat belt, activating a switch in the belt clasp. This switches the servo drives to move the side cushions into the widest angle, ready for the next seat occupancy. A time delay prevents servo adjustment for momentary changes in seat pressure. |
