PURPOSE: To obtain an antibacterial and antifungal composition suitable for aqueous media and having little stimulation by using an enclosure compound prepared by enclosing 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazoline-3-one with a tetrakisphenol compound together with another specific antibacterial compound. CONSTITUTION: This antibacterial and antifungal composition comprises (A) an enclosure compound comprising a tetrakisphenol compound as a host component and 5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazoline-3-one as a guest component together with (B) at least one compound selected from 1,2-benzisothiazoline-3-one, an alkylenebisthiocyanate and a tetrahalogenated sulforane. As the tetrakisphenol compound of the host component, e.g. a compound of the formula [R<1> to R<8> are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an alkoxy or a phenyl; (n) is 0-3], e.g. 1,1,2,2- tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)ethane, etc., is cited. This new composition is chemically stable, has broad antimicrobial spectra and holds effectiveness for a long time. |
