PURPOSE: To provide the light modulator with which a large light output can be generated without generating any problem caused by heat generation or the like by driving plural light emitting elements in time division manner. CONSTITUTION: This device is provided with a serial/parallel converter 6 for converting serial digital signals S2 to parallel signals SP1-SPn for each of (n) (positive integer) pieces of bits of a clock cycle, light emitting part 8 equipped with n×m pieces of light emitting elements 8D1-8Dn, and driving circuit 7 for driving the n×m pieces of light emitting elements inside the light emitting part in time division manner based on these parallel signals. Thus, since n×m pieces of light emitting elements are driven in time division manner, the loads of respective light emitting elements are reduced, heat damage or the like is not generated and driving with the high output rather than a rated output is enabled. |
