PURPOSE: To perform a compression so as not to impair image quality in the both of a high resolution photographing mode and a standard resolution photographing mode when an image pickup device reducing the cost of a recording device by compressing the photographing data of the image photographed by a CCD to be an image pickup element is provided with the both modes. CONSTITUTION: A photographed image (a) is divided into three image spaces of a luminance signal image and color difference signal images 1 and 2 (b), a frequency conversion is performed for each image (c) and (d), and a compression is performed for every frequency component by a prescribed compressibility factor (e). As for the compressibility factor of high frequency components, a high resolution photographing mode is automatically increased as compared with a standard photographing mode. |
