PURPOSE: To provide a shift control device for an automatic transmission which is prevented from the occurrence of a shift shock after release of pedaling without damaging responsiveness to drive of an automobile. CONSTITUTION: A speed is shifted based on a throttle opening and a car speed at steps 112-115. After decision of a shift, when an idle switch is turned ON, one second is maintained after shift back to an original speed at steps 124, 118, 119, and 121. When, after a lapse of 0.3 seconds starting from shift decision, an idle switch is turned ON, shift back to an original speed is brought into an impracticable state at a step 131. By receiving a natural shift shock started to generate, an unnatural shift shock after ON of the idle switch which may be generated when shifting back is effected is prevented from occurring. This constitution eliminates a need to extend a time required forma series of shift processing. |
