摘要 PURPOSE: To lessen the occurrence of the leakage of shielded light according to production errors, to shorten the time for injection of liquid crystals and to prevent the occurrence of short circuiting even in the event of foreign matter intrusion. CONSTITUTION: Many pixels are formed by intersected parts of transparent electrodes 5a,..., 5b,... facing each other. Of the circumferences of these pixels, the three sides are shielded of light by comb tooth-shaped light shielding masks 12,... and the remaining one side is shielded of light by metallic electrodes 6b,... Then, the respective pixels exactly make white display or black display by impression of voltages. High- quality information free from the leakage of the shielded light is thus displayed. The members (slight shielding masks 12,... and the metallic electrodes 6b,...) for light shielding are formed on the same substrate side and since there is no need for providing the glass substrate 1a side with the light shielding members, the light shielding performance is not affected by the sticking accuracy of the substrates even if this accuracy is slightly inferior. Further, there is no need for providing the glass substrate 1a side with the light shielding members and, therefore, the projecting parts from the glass substrate 1a are decreased and the local reduction in the thickness of the liquid crystal layer is prevented.
