PURPOSE: To improve the compression efficiency of transmission data quantity for a difference signal by reducing the difference signal with respect to an image signal of a 1st layer. CONSTITUTION: Averaged 2nd layer data d1 are generated by an averaging circuit 2 from input image data d0 of a 1st layer. An averaging circuit 3 generates layer data d2 of a 3rd layer and an averaging circuit 4 generates layer data d3 of a 4th layer. Furthermore, an averaging circuit 5 generates layer data d4 of a 5th layer and the layer data d4 are coded by a coder 14, from which coded 5th layer data d21 are outputted. Furthermore, a 5th layer data d21 is given to a decoder 18 and a classification adaptive prediction circuit 22, their encoded data d12 and the layer data d3 are given to a subtractor 9, from which a difference d8 is outputted to a coder 13, its output is fed to a computing element 26, from which 4th layer data d20 are outputted. Through the similar processing, 3rd layer data d19, 2nd layer data d18 and 1st layer data d17 are outputted. |
