In the case of a medium-voltage load-interruptor switch with a current path which shortens during switching off, the contact element (4), which is attached to the switching lever, carries out a pivoting movement and is connected to the connecting contact (15) by means of a flexible strip (14). The rotation point of the switch shaft (2) is arranged in the base frame (1) closer to the upper support (9) in such a manner that the moving contact element (4) covers an arc during switching, which arc remains essentially inside the outline which is predetermined by the base frame (1), the supports (8, 9) and the connecting elements (10, 15).
