PURPOSE: To accurately read a recording pattern recorded in a medium at all times by comparing a read pattern with a stored reference pattern and correcting the reference pattern based on the compared result. CONSTITUTION: At the time of reading a bar code which is the read pattern, the standard value of the respective bar code measures of different widths is stored in a RAM 23 beforehand in terms of the specifications of a bankbook 13 to be utilized for transactions and a CPU 21 compares a detected bar code detection measure with the standard value at the time of detecting the bar code. When a detection error is present in the compared result, the feedback amount of a threshold level is calculated corresponding to the size of the detection error. So as to reflect the feedback amount on the threshold level, level change is performed, read is performed and a threshold level side to be the read reference is corrected. Thus, the bar code recorded in the medium is accurately read. |
