PURPOSE: To provide an insulating compound with excellent breakdown voltage characteristics, fire retardance, and mechanical characteristics and offer a flame retardant insulated electric wire using the compound. CONSTITUTION: In a proportion from 5:95 to 45:55 by weight, resin compound is prepared from ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer, whose vinyl acetate content is 30-60wt.%, and nonpolar polyolefin, and 5-40 parts by wt. fire retarding agent of halogen series is added to 100 parts by wt. resin compound. A crosslinked covering layer consisting of a fire retardant electrically insulated compound containing 5-40 parts by wt. halogen series fire retarding agent relative to 100 parts by wt. such resin compound in the mentioned proportion is installed over the periphery of a conductor. |
