PRODUCTION OF COLOR FILTER

PURPOSE: To make it possible to produce a color filter having good flatness by an electrodeposition method by using a substrate provided with transparent thin films for forming >=2 color filters on a transparent substrate by providing this color filter with an insulatable shielding plate in a position corresponding to a part where the thickness of a coating film formed on a conductive thin film increases relatively. CONSTITUTION: This color filter is provided with the insulating shielding plate 8 between the substrate 1 and a counter electrode 3 in such a manner that the plate usually crosses the current direction of a conductive transparent thin film. This shielding plate is usually disposed on the counter electrode 3 in terms of workability and, for instance may be fixed to a suitable supporting jig disposed on the counter electrode aprts a suitable distance provided from the counter electrode 3. The size of the shielding plate 8 is selected according to the sizes of the substrate 1 and the counter electrode 3 and the size to control the film thickness and is usnally <=50% of the area of the counter electrode 3. The thickness thereof may be such a thickness at which the strength to the extent of withstanding repetitive use is maintained. The position to be fixed is so determined as to correspond to the part where the thickness of the electrodeposited coating film increases.
