PURPOSE: To improve sealability and durability of a motor part by slidingly fitting a pinion clutch to a rotary shaft of the motor part through a helical spline, also arranging a rotation suppressing member, energized by a field coil, in a peripheral part of the pinion clutch. CONSTITUTION: In a permanent magnet type starter, turning force of a motor part, comprising an armature 2, permanent magnet 3, yoke 4, rear bracket 5 and a holder 7 of a brush 6, is transmitted to a ring gear 18 of an engine through a pinion clutch 1 and a pinion gear 1d, to start the engine. Here is slide fitted the pinion clutch 1 to a rotary shaft of an electric motor through a helical spline 2a. Rotation suppressing members 9, 91, energizing by a field coil 17 controlled from the outside, are arranged in a peripheral part of the pinion clutch 1. In this way, meshing durability is improved without decreasing sealability in the motor part. |
