A microprocessor has a fax-modem card connected to the telephone network. It has an attached colour scanner and colour printer. If a colour fax is to be sent, the scanner scans the document, and converts the text into a form suitable for transmission. The outgoing information is compressed into a small time slot, and sent as an ordinary Fax. A receiving colour machine, recognises the colour print, and converts and decompresses the signals to a form suitable to command a colour printer. The control sequences are implemented by a program loaded in the appts. memory to govern the transfer and automatic reception of colour documents.
