PURPOSE: To vary the projection angle of light to the optical axis of optical fiber and reduce the decrease in mechanical strength and the transmission loss of the light at this time by bending the tip part of the optical fiber or polishing the end surface, and then performing substrate plating and reinforcement plating for the tip part. CONSTITUTION: After the optical fiber is bent or slantingly polished, the relatively thin substrate plating and relatively thick reinforcement plating are carried out for the tip part of the optical fiber to provide a substrate plating layer 4 and a reinforcement plating layer 5, thereby manufacturing the coated optical fiber 1 which optionally varies the projection angle of light to the optical axis of the optical fiber. The obtained coated optical fiber 1 has the reinforcement plating layer 5 at the tip part as mentioned above, so the mechanical strength and heat resistance of the tip part become superior. Specially, the coated optical fiber which has its end surface polished slantingly has the reinforcement plating layer 5 on its slanting end surface, so the tip of the optical fiber hardly chips and the slanting end surface is not stained even when the coated optical fiber 1 is continuously used. |
