The casting has a wall which supports upward extending ribs and at the intersecting point of at least two ribs, two or more run-off points are provided to allow a treatment fluid, in which the component is immersed, to flow away. A break through hole is formed in the wall either by use of an insert in the casting tool or by machining. Deflashing of the run-off openings is realised either by a specially shaped punch or by machining. The run-off openings are sealed after fluid treatment with a one-piece polymeric component forming a cap with hook-like extensions. USE/ADVANTAGE - The castings are used in the automotive industry and are treated with wax as an anti-rust treatment. The casting openings allow excess wax to run-off and are inexpensive to produce.
