The shaping plate (A) comprises a disc shaped body which on its relief faces (5,6) has guide ways (1) formed in them. A location area (2) is integral with the centre of the plate and serves to secure a permanent magnet (3) in position. The relief surfaces on both sides of the plate are similar in shape and permit the manufacture of a levelling adaptor in plaster or plastic in the conventional manner. The thickness of the shaping plate depends on the nature of the material used in its construction. The outer wall (7) of the plate is made easier to grip by having grip aids (9) formed in it. The plate and the levelling adaptor once constructed are then used in a dental articulator.
