Irrigated cultivation base comprising a watertight floor with an upstanding edge and provided with inlet and outlet lines for water containing fertiliser/liquid manure or compost. A layer of geo-textile sheet (3) of e.g. woven or non-woven polythene, polypropylene or polyester fibres is placed on the prepared base ground (1) to protect the watertight screen (4) of e.g. 0.5-1.0 mm thick polythene or polypropylene film. This screen (4) is anchored at its edges (5) to a wall of e.g. polystyrene blocks (6). Pref. porous composite polyurethane and rubber circular spacers (7) are placed at regular intervals on the screen (4). Rectangular floor sections (15), e.g. concrete tiles, are located on top of the ridged plastic supports (10) sitting on the circular spacers (7) with the ridged projections of the supports (10) providing a definite spacing (17) between. The plants are placed in pots or boxes on the tiled floor surface (19) and are irrigated by water ad liquid compost via pumped inlet flow through the spaces (17,18) to achieve the desired levels. After watering for the required time the level is reduced and the surface (19) allowed to dry. |
