A debris skimmer (10, 91) is designed to float adjacent the surface of a pool (14) to entrap floating debris including leaves (99). The skimmer defines a floway (20, 180) having a front (18) and a rear (28), with an entrance lip (36) at the front, and receptacle-receiving means (30) at the rear. This novel floway is bounded by side members (24, 26) and one or more holes (40, 80, 107) are utilized in a manifold (38, 78, 106) located in the vicinity of the entrance lip such that at least one rearwardly-directed jet of water can be supplied to the floway. This jet of water serves to establish a rearward flow of water through the floway, such rearward flow of water serving to carry floating debris toward the receptacle-receiving means (30) located at the rear of the skimmer. The jet or jets of water may be supplied from a common manifold (38) extending along the underside of the entrance lip, or the jet or jets of water may be supplied from a manifold (78, 106) extending from side to side in an elevated position above the entrance lip. In each instance the manifold is adapted to be connected to a supply of water, preferably to the return line (46) of the pool. In this way the skimmer can function to remove floating debris such as leaves from the surface of a pool without entailing any operating expense over and above the usual expense for operating the pool.
|
