The traction mechanism has a variable engagement periphery, and the toothed rim is formed by toothed members, whose spacing to the next or spaced adjacent members is approx. or precisely variable. At least one spacing changing position is secured (in)directly from one to the next toothed member by an arrester, a fastener, or a self-clamp, as long as no gear change takes place. Pref. the toothed members form an endless link chain. The variable engagement periphery is typically circular i.e. corresp. to an engagement dia. (7).
