A user order input method by the operation and a multimedia device applying the same are provided to play the contents according to the specific operation and to recognize the specific operation of a user as various orders according to the contents. While an MP3 player plays the specific contents, a controller determines whether the menu display command was inputted or not(S210,S220). If the menu display command is input, the controller indicates a menu in a part of a display unit(S230). The controller determines whether the stroke function display command was inputted or not(S240). If the stroke function display command is inputted, the controller indicates the stroke function as a list in the display unit according to the kind of the played contents(S250). The controller determines whether the set function command was inputted among the listed stroke functions or not(S260). If a user performs the stroke when playing the contents playback(S270), the MP3 player recognizes the stroke as the specific user order and correspondingly plays the contents(S280).
