The system has a reverse gear shaft (6) which can be moved between a neutral or forward position in which a motion is transmitted directly to the gearbox primary and secondary shafts, and a reverse position in which the motion transmitted to the shafts is reversed. The shaft (6) carries two intermediate gears (7, 17) which are connected to the primary and secondary shafts, and the engagement of reverse gear is obtained by a relative immobilisation of the two gears. The two gears (7, 17) are able to rotate freely relative to the reverse gear shaft (6), the first being immobilised axially on the shaft, and the second immobilised axially relative to the gearbox casing. Each of the two gears has internal teeth (20,2 3) which mesh when reverse gear is engaged, with a synchroniser to balance their speeds. |
